Due to a production issue with the European Collector's Edition of The Burning Crusade, which means you have to mail some details to their office in Paris to recieve your ingame Netherwhelp, Blizzard will also be compensating me with two days' extra game time and get this...a second pet: Lurky the Murloc.

So today I had my Science-Theory exam. To make matters simple, we had to pick a scientific method, and present + discuss it with the teacher. My topic was semiotics - the teachings of signs.

It was an oral exam and I was more nervous than ever; was nauseous yesterday morning and all. This was the first "real" graded exam on this program and I guess I was using this as the benchmark for how right this program was for me. Well, I got a 10. Which I'm overly ecstatic about, because it's a double-digit grade on my first real Uni exam.

For information our current gradescale goes like this

0, 03, 5, 6(minimum for passing),7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13

So I got the third highest possible. Yay!

This is mostly intended for my old WoW friends; fezastwin, xenzen, cavortingmonkey and prisoner__24601. With half the current semester now over I was actually considering whether or not I'd be able to get back on the game within the coming weeks. What I wanted to ask was whether or not it'd actually be a good idea. I mean, I really miss you guys and all the others on Alleria; but everyone I knew back in the day, including you are now in raiding guilds, which does limit the time we'd be able to actually play together. Even though I wouldn't mind having you guys around to grind Strat and Scholo for my class set ;)

Or the alternative is for me to either reroll on a server like Archimonde, which has Horde guilds on Euro time up and running; of course that means having to meet new people and all.

I'm torn, and so I'm asking you guys for advice, basically: What's your two cents?

So, I'm due on the hazard course today. Where I'll be learning how to recover a car if it's skidding, braking with and without ABS and all that nonsense with little or no traction.

Kinda worried about how rough it'll be, though all my friends have said that this is by far the most fun part of getting a license; since you get to drive like they do in the movies.

We'll see; pity they don't let you take pictures.

My grandmother's funeral is tomorrow. I'm definately not looking forward to it; today I had to go to her apartment and see if there was anything there that I'd like to recieve...I felt like a vulture.

My grandmother passed away today...around 2½ hours before this post, actually. It was sudden, but peaceful and I was at least able to sit and hold her hand as she passed on.

My grandmother was admitted today.

No one could reach her all morning, so my uncle who lives nearby finally went over to check on her. Turns out she'd been sick all night and couldn't even stand. They called a doctor who decided that, given that my grandmother has a heart condition, she was to be admitted.

I'm having mixed feelings about this; she is past 80 and her time is passing. So while I'm not looking forward to her death, should it come soon I'm at least prepared for it, since this is happening naturally instead of from nowhere like it happened with my grandfather.

Today; on April 26th 1986 reactor no. 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Ukraine exploded after an energy experiment had spiraled out of control, and the safety measures for the reactor had been disabled.

The radiation cloud spread as far as the north of Finland, and to this day a 30 kilometer quarantine zone remains in effect around the plant itself.

Just reminds us...of the fallibility of men.

Well these past weeks have been totally crazy. Since the accident at work I'd been feeling down so I went to see my doctor. Who diagnosed me with stress and instructed me to take it easy.

So now things're going more normally at work, which is good. My coworker has been moved to a re-training facility and they say that there's a good chance he'll regain motorfunctions in his upper body.

In terms of my own stuff, I'm still looking at the various college programs. One thing that's somewhat daunting is the fact that I might have to move to another city to start. Though that's not even the worst part; the worst part is the uncertainty of whether or not it's the right program.

Of course that leaves some financial backlash, since if I'm going to have to put up a deposit for an apartment in a new city, I won't have much...if any money to spend this summer.

And finally: I turn 24 on March 31st! Where the heck did the year go?

These past weeks have really been an eye-opener for me. With all the things happening around the world; this little nation I live in having become the center of a major international incident and what is looking more and more to become an all out war of cultures has just awakened me to the world around me in a completely new way.

I see things now that I didn't before; I'm much more interested in foreign culture and society, more interested in politics and global events. And suddenly the things that have occupied my time for about 3½ years now seem totally inconsequental.

In my time in a certain fandom, I've had good experiences...lots of them. I've also been hung out to dry and become the target of resentment from people who decided to get mad that I hadn't read their stories, or that I disagreed with the way they were doing character development, and so forth.
And honestly; it all just seems so petty now.

To live a life where you allow yourself to be worked up over a fictional universe and is willing to make enemies based on that is well...it's not a life at all. There's a world out there; a real world where things never go the way you want them to. People never react like you want them to; the only way to get ahead is through dialogue and understanding; something that you will never learn while sitting in a little Happy Place in a fictional world, that you portray via a typewriter or computer. And to let yourself start resenting people who happen to disagree with you over these things...well there's more to life than what just pops from your mind...there's more to the world than that.

If I had to sum all that up into one sentence; it would be: "I have woken up." And I have. I can enjoy fictional things, and universes and creating things for them. But they aren't the world; they aren't a life and they will never, ever be grounds to start raving over others. If someone wants that, well...that's their choice, but I pity them.

I've learned that while it is always important to be tolerant and to listen to the viewpoints of others; there will always be those who decide to dislike you and what you do; for whatever reason. To that I simply say:

"I am who I am. I'm not perfect but I try to be a good guy. I do what I do, and I live like I live. If you have issues with that, then...that's your problem, not mine."
